This EAL/SEN course looks at the overlap between working with English as an additional language learners and learners with special educational needs. It considers the different types of learners and explores how professionals might distinguish between pupils’ language needs and pupils with learning difficulties. It demonstrates effective provision for pupils who are learning English as an additional language and whose progress may be causing concern. The course also explores appropriate assessment procedures and provision.

Format

Typically taking 12-15 hours to complete, our online courses involve a set of reading and viewing activities and one written assignment (400 words).

  • There are no scheduled interactions for our online courses, so you can study when it suits you, irrespective of your schedule or time zone.
  • Participants and tutors engage with one another via the group discussion boards, sharing their experiences and responses to tasks.  
  • In order to receive a course certificate you should complete the activities and submit your written assignment within 3 months of your enrolment date.

 If you are considering applying for the accredited course please be aware that it is not possible to convert the stand alone units into credits towards the accredited version due to the moderation requirements of The University of Greenwich.
